Dear Nadiya,

Let me start out by saying how underestimated the descriptions of magically animated tree stumps are. But I will get back to that later…

OK, so, we met up with that Nigel fellow again as he led us to the cave entrance. It turns out that there is one underneath one of the buildings here in Corvis proper. I’ll tell you which one when we are done looking around, so that you can inform your bosses about it and they can close it up. But for now, we need it to find out what is going on. Turns out there is a little homeless town going on down there, but they don’t seem to be causing more trouble than simple food thievery. We ended up convincing one of them to talk about some visitor that was down there yesterday, said he had a Khadoran accent. There’s something interesting going on there, gonna have to keep an eye out, as he was looking for someone with a similar accent. Hopefully it’s not either of us! We’ve got it bad enough with people not trusting us already.

The vagrant showed us the way to an underground stream(with very clean water by the way), and Sarin found a hidden hallway that was obscured by some spell. Behind it was a rat-infested stairway, and those two Scharde fugitives that we had lost track of at the University. Youdon’t have to worry about them anymore, they wont be causing any more trouble. Unfortunately, they were in front of a large door that contained a single wooden statue. When we entered the room, the stupid thing stood up and blocked the next door! I’ve cut down my share of trees, so it didn’t seem like it would be that big of a problem to cut a moving one down… Oh was I mistaken!

Back to what I mentioned earlier about being underestimated; The thing hits like a charging bull, and probably busted a few of my ribs. And to add insult to injury(multiple injuries), the thing almost covered the room in sharp needles that shot out of what could only be described as a beard, as if a statue made out of twigs could have facial hair! Needless to say, on top of the crushed bones, I’ve got to deal with being perforated by those spines. Ziri had a brilliant idea to cover the thing in Menoth’s Fire, it definitely did not appreciate that gesture, as I’m sure it led to its demise moments later.

So we made it out alive, but there is more that we need to look through down there. I just hope that I can get my wounds looked at, or even healed up enough to join the next delve down there. The last thing I want is to be laid out in recovery for a week or two while I miss the excitement going on with everyone else! Only one way to find out. If I was getting paid for this, it would have been perfect! Fortunately, the intrigue in everything has me pulled into the fray for better or worse.

Don’t worry, I’ll be careful not to get killed. I seriously doubt that there is anything more dangerous than that moving lumber-pile down that path anyway.

Dear Nadiya,
Sorry for waking you up on the way out last night. That Ziri broad had some sort of vision telling her that I needed to help investigate some spirits down by the river. Seems like a load of rubbish, but I figure that I’ll check it out with them. I dont know where the Sarin or Valdross(the mage and other guy) went but only Damasco, Ziri, and the Trollkin Hammish seemed up and about this late.

Damasco accosted a ne’er-do-well gobber, Nigel, down the road, and ended up taking his jacket! He ended up giving it back to him in exchange for some information regarding two Thrall bodies that have washed up on the river banks today. That was more than enough to get me to follow Ziri’s crazy vision-quest. We figured that looking for an entrance into those underground caves would prove to be a good start to our search.

Unfortunately, all of the caves nearby have been sealed up by the city, and we needed to get that Nigel’s help to find an open one. He led us to some secret brothel downtown, and helped set up a meeting with some Ogrun woman who, by the way, did not seem to know that she was a large ugly Ogrun. She agreed to arrange help to find a cave entrance, and even have one of her ogrun’s accompany us down into it. I’m not sure how well that will work, and I hope that the caves are wide enough to fit both the Ogrun and Hammish. We’ll be setting out in the morning, so i’ll see you when I get back.

Dear Nadiya,
I definitely need to raise my rates. That assorted bunch of vagrants and travelers that helped out in Steamswell? They keep showing up! I went back to Frederik’s in the morning, and they were there following leads from that mine. I wonder if anybody is paying for that info… Regardless, it seems that I’m caught up in this for a while, so if I’m not around too much in the next few days, blame them.

Seeing you at your post was definitely cool, but made me realize that I made a good choice not taking that offer to be a guard there… Way too boring. Speaking of things that aren’t boring, the folks I’m working with found a lead about the missing airship and Professor that you mentioned. It turns out that they are probably connected. From what it looks like, the Prof. was working on airships for those swans and ended up taking one out for a joyride! Although I’m not quite sure why he would do that, since he was building one of his own on the roof of his workshop. Also, HE WAS BUILDING ONE ON THE ROOF! You might want to tell your boss about that. It looked like he was being sneaky about it.

I forgot to mention the 3 Sharde-ites that tried to get the jump on us while we were looking around. Crazy face tattoos and all that! Didn’t put up much of a fight, but it turns out they can be elusive. Keep an eye out for two of ‘em running around campus. Might give you some excersize chasing them down too!

It turns out that the ‘good’ Professor had a dark side to him. When we were looking around more of his place, he had a young lady hooked up to some weird machine. I’m not sure why, but whatever it was turned the whole room dark, and the bitch attacked Sarin when she was released. We calmed her down and released her to the guards. All’s well it seems. I guess the bunch of us are makin a pretty good team so far.

Dear Nadiya,
I think that Frederik is getting desperate. I just spent an entire day trekking to some Podunk ghost-town outside Corvis, on guard-duty! You know how much I hate doing that stuff! It’s a total waste of my abilities. But, I digress… So, on a contract that didn’t even have a requestor attached to it, I make my way to this town. Approaching my destination, I see what must be the folks that hired a single guard. There’s this tanned woman in fine robes being escorted by a stout Ordic fellow that must have sensitive skin with the amount of tin he’s wearing. They meet up with a few other strange men that dont seem to have any business cohorting around together: A boastful Trollkin, who seems at home in his directionlessness; A strange fellow in dark robes, completely devoid of culture(not that we are any better); and some fellow who looks familiar, I think he’s a Corvis local or something.

So, I figure that I will follow through with the job, if only to humor myself for having come all the way out here. We approached this “abandoned” mining facility, except the main building is obviously being used for something, it’s chimney at full output. We make our way inside the main doors, only to find the elderly receptionist murdered and left to rot. Something is definitely beginning to smell fishy here. Behind him is the main… I guess it’s a factory of some sort… There was some strange ring that was pulling our metal towards it, a few of the weaker ones lost what they were holding! The whole thing seemed to be running on its own, with a labor-jack shoveling coal into the burner while whatever caretakers of this place were absent. The Trollkin haphazardly started cutting pipes and tubes, and ended up scalding his face with a burst of steam! They obviously don’t have much common sense up in their skulls.

Upon further investigation, there was some room in the back with plans on how to build this strange machine, and crazy writing all over the walls. I didn’t get to see much more, when down the road, come two… things… They were dead-on descriptions of the stories we heard as kids about the Cryxian experiments! Lifeless eyes, if any eyes at all, and covered in parts by what looked like Mechanika! Whatever these things were, we dispatched them and made our way to the other main building in the complex. Whoever started this mining shindig again, definately didn’t have the same goals as the original owners. The equipment they were diggin’ with was pointed in a completely different direction, and not even aimed downward! We didn’t consider much as to why, but we knew that whatever sent those two shambling things, would come to investigate when they didn’t return. If in fact these were Cryx, we couldn’t let their operation continue, and burned the two buildings down, hopefully ceasing their operations here. Either way, it is very disconcerning that they are setting up shop less than a day’s travel out of corvis…

Well, I’m heading back to Corvis to let Frederik know how things went, and made a strings-free 12 Crowns in the process!

Dear Nadiya,
I’ll be out on some strange sounding request to… guard… someone out in Steamswell. Haven’t heard of it before… Anyway, if it turns out to be a trap, and I don’t survive, kill Frederik for me. I know we owe him a lot, but this is getting ridiculous.
